Of all the vehicle maintenance you can do as a SAAB owner, the single biggest item of maintenance that increases the chances of long term reliabilty is the re-occurring 30,000 mile maintenance. While other vehicle maintenance is important for safety and reliabilty, the work carried out every 30,000 miles keeps the fluids, filters, and other common wear items in their best state. When vehicle fluids and filters are properly maintained, contaminents and debris from normal wear can be flushed from the respective systems allowing those systems to work at their best. Typically, owners who regularly maintain their cars see lower overall repair costs than owners who neglect performing the re-occurring 30,000 mile maintenance. This is due to contaminent build up in the fluids or blockages in the filters that cause increasing wear on these systems, and common examples are premature replacement of power steering racks, brake calipers, and clutch master/slave cylnders.

Unlike the human body, that has a system to deal with waste remvoal on a cellular level, an automobile has no means of cleansing itself as wear and use contaninates it. While our blood or lungs will carry away waste for processing, an automobile will simply continue to store contaminents in fluids and filters until we actively change them. Cleansing those systems of contaniments will allow them to funciton better and last longer.
