0.7 Bulletins continued...

Since 1947, SAAB has produced unique and technologically advanced automobiles.  During the last half-century of auto production, SAAB has been a leader in areas of safety, ergonomics, performance and style. The company has demonstrated a commitment to good engineering and solid construction. It is because of SAAB's dedication to making great cars that I opened a SAAB only repair shop.

But this section is about Service Bulletins, which means that this section is about SAAB's mistakes, oversights, and miscalculations. SAAB has consistently produced good cars; however, nothing as complex as a modern automobile can be manufactured without occasional problems. These problems stem from a variety of sources and can have far reaching ramifications. Some common examples of failures are engineering faults, outside vendors that supply a substandard part, or assembly line blunders.

It should then come as no surprise that mistakes will occur no matter what quality control measures are implemented. No matrix as complex as the one of making modern automobiles is easy to navigate, and car companies recognize that incidental short comings will occur. With this recognition comes the need for a system to address these inevitable failures, and this system is the publication of Technical Service Bulletins. Through the use of these Bulletins, car makers can let dealerships and independent garages know that certain short comings should be corrected.

SAAB is commited to not only designing, testing, and building great cars, but the company is also commited to improving these cars after they are sold. By constantly monitoring how the cars they build behave in real world situations, SAAB is able to publish Technical Service Bulletins that improve upon the initial design. SAAB has had great success as an innovator and has led the industry in making stronger, safer, and faster cars. This success; however, has not been without occasional glitches and despite all the innovations, good engineering, and hard work, SAAB has had problems over the years with certain systems on their cars. None of the problems have been life threatening to the vehicle's occupants, but some of the problems have been costly for owner's to address. Fortunately SAAB is ever vigilant, and they examine their cars’ shortcomings and develop ways to modify or replace substandard systems.  Through the use of Service Campaigns as outlined in individual Service Bulletins, SAAB has established improved repair standards, and in some cases has offered redesigned parts to solve problems experience by customers.  By recognizing the shortcomings on certain cars, SAAB realizes that proper repairs can be made to replace or repair the flawed system, or if replacement or repair isn’t and option, then due diligence can be exercised to maintain the flawed system.
