The shop lift is a valuable aid in expediting car repair, but incorrect use of the lift can result in injury or death. It is crucial to observe the below basic procedures every time a car is lifted.

Always observe the following basic rules and exercise sound judgment at all times when operating the lift.
1. lift the car from the proper lifting points
a. car will be damaged if lifted from non-structural points
b. see literature on file that illustrates lifting point for most vehicles
c. car could fall if improperly lifted resulting in injury or death
d. ensure that the car is properly centered and balanced on the lift
2. observe ceiling height, especially with roof racks or other roof mounted accessories
a. this shop has a safe lifting ceiling height of 10' 6"and some vehicles may not fully lift
b. mind opening the garage door into the lifted car
3. after lifting vehicle to desired height, lower the lift until the safety latches engage
4. inspect the lift daily
a. ensure that fluid level is correct
b. ensure that columns are secure
c. ensure that the lift is not binding or otherwise not properly working
d. do not use the lift if it is not working properly
5. when lowering the car ensure that nothing is below the lift
a. all tools, equipment should be removed prior to lowering car
b. ensure no one is under the lift
c. ensure no other vehicles are under the lift
